History -    

Rin is a robot created by a company called Crypton Future Media for the purposes of using their voice synthesizer program, "Vocaloid," to become a new singing sensation. Alongside her voice twin, Kagamine Len, Rin has sung with her company for about two years. Part of her fame is the ability of her fans to use her software to create new songs for her to sing, which she accesses wirelessly.  Additionally, she and Len are freshmen at a high school with human children so that they may learn about the world and social interactions, which they do rather quickly thanks to their computer brains. She has also awakened to emotions and a personality - at the whims of her fanbase's programming, or perhaps by some other mysterious phenomena. She has come to see herself and the Vocaloids around her as people rather than machines - except when it's more convenient to think of herself as a machine of course - and they have formed a family. When they're not singing or attending school, they pretty much just derp around at their Crypton-sponsored apartment, or they go out and find their own fun. For example, Rin and Len once found a roadroller in a construction site and adopted it as their own, taking it on a road trip to a famous hot springs.

Important relationships -

Len Kagamine: Crypton created him with the concept that he and Rin would represent two sides of a mirror, but they consider themselves twin siblings.

Miku Hatsune: Is Miku-nee. She is the most popular Vocaloid, and as such the twins consider her a sister and rival.

KAITO and MEIKO: The oldest model of Japanese Vocaloid, they tend to take the role of eldest brother and eldest sister. They think KAITO-nii is an idiot and like to make fun of him and run him over with their road roller. MEIKO-nee has more of their respect, but since she's a known drunkard, they will tend to disregard any sisterly advice.

Luka Megurine: A newer model than Rin, but with an adult body. Rin doesn't regard her as a close sister per se, but is becoming used to her and would probably listen to her advice; she's kind of cool.

Gakupo Kamui and Megpoid AKA Gumi: Unlike all the Vocaloids listed before, these two are not made by Crypton, so not part of the family - and Rin is glad of that, because if they were in her family, she'd be embarrassed for them. One thinks he's a Samurai, which has nothing to do with singing wtf, and the other thinks she's Ranka Lee, and... well, just. Derp.  In other words, they're thoroughly wack. However, Gakupo has sort of grown on her by now. 

Personality - 

Out of the two "twin" Vocaloids, Rin is generally regarded as the more adventurous and thrill-seeking, but always pulling Len into it regardless.  Unlike some Vocaloids for whom singing for others is their greatest enjoyment in life, the twins get bored easily so often they seek alternate forms of entertainment. This may or may not include pranks, but at any rate, Rin is very playful, seeking fun and games wherever she can. She can be silly at times, and likes things that are cute.

Because Rin is quite aware that her personality is made reality due to her fan's imaginations, she is very competitive and will do anything it takes to increase her popularity. This can sometimes include wanting to knock other Vocaloids down a few pegs, particularly the ever-beloved Miku, for whom they have coined a slogan: "Green is the enemy." It basically means that she is the one to beat. Making this possibly worse, Rin's stubborn and has a tough time saying sorry.

Rin has a tendency to be selfish, where often she won't be aware of other people's feelings because she is thinking of her own. This can lead to some bossiness, and  just as she will literally steamroll people, she will walk all over a person if they let her, sometimes without even noticing what she is doing ...but often times deliberately because she knows they'll let her get away with it. Speaking of which, the twins take full advantage of their eternal childhood to feign innocence concerning their vaguely antisocial tendencies. Kagamine logic says robots don't have to obey the law since it's a human concept.

She's also a tsundere, mainly of the type B variety in that she is much rougher on people she cares for in comparison to strangers, but also, should she ever fall in love (which is possible) she would probably end up giving that person the cold shoulder on accident because she doesn't really know how to deal with that kind of emotion. Especially since she is an unaging loli-machine which in her opinion should guarantee that a mature relationship won't happen; she will either be rejected for being a child or for not being human. And even if they didn't, she'd then wonder if they're just a pervert, cause that's how tsun it would get (...well, and considering some of the things she's been made to sing, she's probably met plenty of them.) 

In contrast, Rin acts rather brocon and deredere towards Len, but it's actually not because she feels romantic love for him; this act is very popular among her fans, so it fuels her competition. Furthermore, it is at least a form of love, which is more than she expects from anyone else, so it's a lot less lonely that way. She never wants to be separated from Len and desires to be extremely close to him.

Abilities - SINGING but not just any singing. Rin, like any other Vocaloid, is capable of singing at superhuman pitches and speeds. However, since singing is really her only purpose, she doesn't sound human when trying to speak normally. All of her syllables are tuned to a specific note, therefore it sounds like she's been run through an auto-tuner.  Still, there do exist Producers who can make her sound incredibly beautiful and human when singing (or even when talking, sometimes. for example, 3:15 into The Cursed Glasses her speaking sounds much more realistic than her usual voice, aka the examples earlier. If she put effort into it she could probably sound like this all the time, but she's too lazy to learn how to do it.)  In short, the quality of her voice depends on the skill of her user. It's also important to note that Rin cannot create her own songs - she relies entirely on her human "masters" to create them for her.

HUMANOID ROBOT One's immediate impression when looking at Rin would be that of an ordinary female, human child - but under her realistic "skin", she is made of metal, pipes and wires. It is designed after the human internal structure so that she can move fluidly and dance. She also has an incredibly complex A.I. system and the chips and such to support it. Since she is made of stronger stuff than a regular human, she can take a lot more hits, but it's not impossible to damage or shut her down.

DRIVING UNSAFELY The twins own a steamroller, and though neither have a license, both drive it; however Rin prefers to stand on top of it and let Len drive, if they're not actually rolling over someone or something. Which they do. A lot. I can safely say "Get the roadroller" is their solution to the majority of life's problems.

INTERNETS  Rin is constantly online and receiving new songs to be downloaded into her, however she also is aware of anything else online - examples of things pertaining to herself would be art websites, forums, and the video streaming website Nico Nico Douga. It is notable that these are the essence of Rin's "soul," as her personality is incapable of growing by itself. She can also learn by accessing search engine websites, and ... well, you know, anything you can do by having a computer, just that it's in her head.

Possessions -
YELLOW FAT ROADROLLER A yellow steamroller that is shared by the twins.

HEADPHONE/MIC  It makes her voice easier to hear! She can also playback her songs and listen to how she sounded. This device can also allow Rin to contact other Vocaloids.

COMPUTER ARM THINGS They do... something, but are detachable.

USUAL OUTFIT    Consists of:

• a girl's school uniform, heavily modified to be more revealing hurhur delicious loli
• a gigantic hairbow
• barrettes

COSTUMES In many of Rin's songs, she is playing someone other than herself. Some of her famous roles include an evil princess based on Marie Antoinette, a terminally ill girl whose love is a prisoner in a concentration camp, and a two-headed circus freak (with Len.) 

Appearance - Ta-dah! She's the one with the short-shorts and the giant bow.
